As a Good Shepherd Volunteer…

As a Good Shepherd Volunteer you will give your time, energy and talents to children and families who are experiencing the social stresses of poverty, violence, substance abuse, and employment.

Our sites are located across the United States and South America. You will work with a team of human service professionals in:

  • Group and foster home for adolescents
  • Alternative school programs
  • Day care programs
  • Meditation programs
  • Domestic violence shelters
  • Programs to advocate for social change

In your work with young people and families, you will have opportunities to see and experience the world through their eyes, minds, and hearts. You will form relationships which will have a lasting impact on your life.

In community living, you will find support from other volunteers and from the Sisters of the Good Shepherd – a religious community that has a rich tradition of service and compassion. You will explore a simple lifestyle with opportunities to reflect and pray.

The work of the sisters of the Good Shepherd is based on a compassionate acceptance of every individual and a belief in one’s ability to change and grow. Joining in this work, volunteers encounter God’s presence by their compassionate response to the needs of others.
